MeeGo – amplified

Have been busy try out and writing a post on the new operating system from Intel+Nokia > MeeGo!  Even though the Linux based OS needs a bit of smoothing in some areas, my overall experience with the operating system has been awesome! An innovative and simple interface which is so welcoming, is what makes me stick to it for now. Over the course of the past 3 days I have used 3 different operating systems built specifically for netbooks. Firstly, the best available solution: Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Second, the cloud based Jolicloud and finally MeeGo for Netbooks. And I’ve decided to stick with MeeGo for a while.

I’ve liked Amplify for being easy to use and for being based on my favourite WP engine. So for the first time, here is an autopost to all my services from my Amplify page. But is Amplify good enough to take over my posterous? I’m not so sure about that. Just like MeeGo, amplify needs to spend sometime smoothening out a few bits until it replaces my main “easy-to-post” blog engine!

Evernote, the digital notebook

If you’ve used Microsoft’s one note you will truly appreciate what Evernote has to offer. I usually have trouble explaining how good a service Evernote offers since its not really just another web2.0 service. Its merely the future of one of our humblest inventions, a notebook. Now what would you use a notebook for? It’s not fancy and does not have anything to do with the web or anything to with technology in general. Evernote and other notebook apps bring the power of technology to an ordinary notepad.

A notepad can be used as a scrapbook, a contacts list, a journal, a telephone directory and even some place to jot down instant ideas. Evernote offers you the ability to add pictures and even voice to your notes. You can retrieve a screenshot from your desktop and make it a part of a note.

Evernote like most notebook apps (Other prominent ones being MS Onenote and the more popular web app, Google Notebook) allows you to save notes inside notebooks. You organize related (or unrelated notes) inside notebooks (think of them as folders) In addition to creating notes from your desktop using the desktop application, you can create using mobile apps which support most mobile technologies (sadly, symbian is ignored) There is also the less intuitive and convenient web/mobileweb interface just in case you don’t feel like using any of the apps. Google notebook no longer accepts new users and its out of active development.

But my favourite feature has to be the abilty to mail stuff out to a private mail address on evernote and it creates a  note automatically. Works like magic, take a pic with your mobile phone and mail it across to your notebook. For saving those web titbits which you pick up while you are straying on the internet, they also have a simple bookmarklet (or a firefox extension, as you like it)

Tag all your notes and keep them organized. Evernote’s free service does have ads, but the ads weren’t all that obtrusive and the limits for upload should be well within what you can use. But of course, if you are power user, consider buying the evernote premium account.

Somewhere I read that Evernote could help you remember almost everything. Its quite true..I use google search history as well, so that makes sure my digital memory is really really good!

Now all Evernote needs is a symbian app. It supports the iphone, but just like facebook, ignores the symbian community. Yeah, really irritating, because I’m forced to use the mobile web interface which isn’t too much to write about. But I love the desktop app and its all the more awesome on my netbook.

Test post

A test post to test the facebook posterous integration. Read more about posterous and how you can use email to write your blog post. Just configured Google analytics for my posterous blog as well.
My primary offline blogging tool has been the windows live writer (Yeah, from M$) But, then since I'm running Ubuntu, I needed a good blog post editor. And what better than the gmail compose interface.

13 reasons why Internet explorer rules workplaces!

A recent survey reveals that most enterprises still love to flaunt Internet Explorer as their default browser. Most of the security updates in the organization are for IE as well. Major reasons which could be attributed to this are:

  1. It is bundled with Microsoft windows.
  2. Most Microsoft office applications work better with IE
  3. Outlook Webaccess works better with Internet explorer
  4. Microsoft sharepoint services work with Internet explorer
  5. Its easier to put in admin policies for a non-open source browser
  6. Other software used in the organization are dependent on Internet explorer
  7. It gets updated with the windows updater
  8. Its “Microsoft” Internet Explorer.
  9. The admin does not know about Firefox or Chrome
  10. There is so much you can do with Internet explorer
  11. There are no Macs which run Safari or Firefox
  12. Users have trouble learning to use any browser other than IE
  13. The IT policy says so.

Let us know what you think in the comments..Should IE be the browser of choice in organizations?

Maruti A-star: the new alto

Can’t help feeling that the A-star is a replica of the Hyundai i10, especially the front grille is unmistakably i10ish. Anyway..its about time, India’s most popular car, the Maruti Alto got a facelift. Read more about it here and here.

Meanwhile, I also came across pictures of a test version of the new car here. So, I guess the final product would look as good as the pic above.

The original link to the article lies here (thanks to Mridul for that)

More about the test drive of the new A-star here. Very impressive I guess…and that should answer the pricing queries as well :)

The Dark Knight: Reviewed

]The Dark Knight Poster

Atlast the movie, I had been waiting for is here, the waiting was so tough that I even blogged when I was waiting. Forget the hype. I watched Dark Knight because I am fan of the series and always have been. I was in my 3rd grade when I watched my first batman movie. It was so dark and evil back then, but I still loved every bit of it.
And now I watch the Dark Knight..more eerie, more scary, more powerful, more evil and more of Joker. When I saw the promos, I was constantly disturbed that the movie was more of the Joker than the Batman. After I watched the movie, this is the first movie where all my thoughts have been on the villain rather than on what the hero did.
Batman does a few antics, packs in a few technology and suffers at the hands of the Joker. While the Joker plans and schemes ahead of everyone, thinks like a lunatic; yet with the precision of a scientist acts out his role like a dream. And so many others have said it, and I would say it too. Give him an Academy award; he deserves it…He plays Joker with elan, makes him look cruel, sadistic and as perfect as he could ever be. I think he even went beyond what the real Joker was. Now the Dark Knight stars Heath Ledger as the Joker, and that would be Late Heath Ledger, just in case you did not know. He was only 28 when he died in January 2008. He has already been nominated for the Academy awards so I really want him to win it this time. I am sad that hollywood has lost a star of this calibre. I really wonder how someone could undergo such a transformation and live the character.

The JokerHeath Ledger

The storyline is long, and it is one of the longest movies I have seen. It is engrossing, dark, chilly and gives you the feel that you are in the midst of the action. The storyline does not belong to an ordinary superhero movie. It would be more at home in the slick academy award winning genre. The storyline has action, but it does not disturb the aesthetics of the movie one bit, nor does it come in the way of the brilliant performances. Yeah, I would have liked more footage on two-face though..

All through my review I have not quoted a single scene from the movie. Because I do not wish to spoil the fun you are going to have when you watch the movie. But still, if you are one of those who wishes to read the plot before watching it. Read it here. So what is the final verdict? Watch it. 6 out of 5 stars for this one. Why so serious? Go watch it and have fun.

Update:

Christian Bale arrested. He was arrested for alleged assault..Is this the curse of the Dark Knight?

Terminator: salvation – the trailer

Well, now you know who the next governor of California is going to be.
Prerequisites: You have to star in one of the terminator and the Batman series (remember Freeze?). This is how machines plan to take over the world. Check out the trailer of the Terminator: Salvation. Its not much, Its more like a sneak peek than a trailer and doesn’t tell you much about the storyline.
Considering I am watching Dark Knight the day it releases, I can’t wait for the terminator as well. The 3rd part was a bit too boring in my opinion and I hope part 4 delivers something better.
Check out the review of Dark Knight tomorrow, right here on thunderror.com

Iron Man

I just couldn’t resist myself from writing a review for this movie. I could in fact sum up the whole review in just one line. “Why are you wasting time reading this review…Go and watch the movie….”

I decided to watch Iron Man after I read an article about how the movie had grossed more than Speed Racer…Now if SR was good, then this had to be excellent…and I wasn’t disappointed one bit..Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark is a natural for the role as he plays it with ease…He shows the suffering and the pain he goes through at the hands of terrorists and then again at the hands of his business partner…(Oh! God, too many spoilers, thats why I did not want you to waste your time reading this review…) The technology is realistic and the CG are added in the correct quantity…Not too much, not too less…I cannot but help drawing comparisons between Tony and Bruce Wayne…which makes me want to watch Dark Knight ASAP….

For Gwyneth, her role is a walk in the park and she does complete justice to her role…The action scenes are well shot and look great and slick…

I would like to sum up by saying that, out of the many superhero movies, this is one of those movies with a

heart…not just special effects…
